Description

This is an 11 x 14 oil on stretched canvas, gallery block with a 2″ wide side all around, painted gold.  It is my version of this famous painting by Johann Baptist Hofner, but I added much more color, texture, and the peasant girl’s face is slightly different.  I wanted to paint this because it is so heartwarming to see the female sheep looking protectingly up at the shepherdess as the girl holds the baby lamb.  I love the sheep and I love the child holding the baby animal.  The landscape is very old world, subdued skies, but very bright colors, almost surrealistic in the sheep’s coat.  I hope you find a home for this very elegant piece and enjoy it as much as I am as it is on my living room wall.
